12-1 Said: You Said It!
The things we said today.
Royal we, ha ha!
Talking to myself.
The Things We Said Today will be my 12-1 Said Advent poem.
But what does the song mean by today:
Then we will remember the things we said today?
Today could have been sixty years ago--
the day my closest childhood friend Victor said
The Things We Said Today is the Beatles's most beautiful song--
or the day (in fact) when I tried to learn that song on the mandolin
Key of A-
minor, starting with four strong A-minor da-da-Da chords
(I can kind of play them on my mandolin):
Da-da-You say you will love me
If I have to go.
You'll be thinking of me.
Somehow I will know.
Victor died thirty years ago.
And eventually the decisive shift to A-major:
Me, I'm just the lucky kind
Love to hear you say that love is luck--
luck of being alive to remember my dead friend--
Someday when we're dreaming
Deep in love not a lot to say
Then we will remember
The things we said today.
