12-3 Quietness: The Comforter Has Come

Blessed Quietness, Manie Payne Ferguson, 1897
1 Chronicles 22:9-10

Joys are flowing like a river since the Comforter has come,
who abides with us forever, makes the trusting heart a home.

I just need to turn off my thoughts
for my heart to be trusting, to feel the Comforter inside me.
And especially turn off the news
and stop looking at Facebook!

David's reign was fraught with enemies
so that he could not build a house in God's name
because of all the blood he'd shed.
But God spoke to him and said:
Behold, a child shall be born to thee,
who shall bring thee sheqet--
quietness and tranquility--
rest from all enemies round about:
for their name shall be Solomon
(Peace, Shalom),
and I will give peace and quietness to Israel in their days.

People ranting about ICE attacking Somali immigrants in Minneapolis--
many comments in favor.

Shekket!

Shut up!

Du, Papageno, schweige still!

(Dare I remember?--Quiet, piggy!)

OK, I'm meditating now.

Blessed quietness, holy quietness
What assurance in my soul.
On the stormy sea Jesus speaks to me.
How the billows cease to roll.
